DELAMAN meeting 2006
DELAMAN IV (2006): The Fourth Annual Meeting of the Digital Endangered Languages and Musics Archive Network
2-3 November 2006
Endangered Languages Archive, School of Oriental and African Studies
London, UK
Preservation in rapidly changing contexts
The DELAMAN archives are an informal, international group of archives that share interests in endangered languages, cultures, and performance traditions. These interests range from wider issues posed by endangerment and loss of traditions, to trends and challenges in technical management. This meeting focusses on our contexts; linguistic and language communities, funding sources, academic and publishing institutions, and related domains such as videography and performing arts. What is common across all these contexts is that they are all changing extremely rapidly. We hope to come to better understanding of how these contexts affect us – what opportunities and challenges they present, how to react to them, and how to play our part in leading change in our areas of interest.
Guest speaker: Richard Wright of the BBC Archives and Presto Space

Information on travel, accommodation and refreshments
1. Travel to SOAS:
London Heathrow is the nearest airport. It is very convenient to reach SOAS from there. The Piccadilly line runs from Heathrow Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4 to Russell Tube Station, taking 50 minutes; cost is £3.80 (about 5 euro). It takes about 2 minutes by walk to reach SOAS or the Tavistock Hotel from Russell Tube Station. If you arrive at other airports (e.g. Stansted, Gatwick), you may need to take a train to London and then take another underground to Russell Square; typical cost will be about £15 each way. Do not take a taxi as they are very expensive.
2. Accommodation:
Accommodation will be arranged according to your requirements, the default location is the Tavistock Hotel, which is a mid-priced hotel (about £60 single per night) about 3 minutes away from SOAS. Chaithra Puttaswamy will make bookings for you if you request, and you will need to take care of the payment.
